Steed of Truth
If Jesus is God, how can he pray to God?
First of all, you have to understand that the relationship between God the Father and Jesus Christ did not start when Jesus first came on earth. They are eternal, Jesus (aka The Word) was there from the beginning. John 1:1-2 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning."
God is one divine being but three persons. They have different roles and have been communicating with each other since before creation and time and they will continue to do so. God the Son, Jesus Christ, he took on a lowly human form, as stated in Philippians 2:6-11. He came down to Earth to die in our place for all the sins we have committed, so that we can gain salvation. Jesus gave up His heavenly glory to die for your sins, so that those who believe in His death and resurrection can be saved.
When Jesus took on human flesh , He experienced pain, suffering, and temptation just like us, except without sin, according to Hebrews 4:15. Jesus communicated with the Father about everything before He came to Earth, as is evident throughout the Gospels. These three have had, and continue to have, an eternal relationship. His prayers demonstrated His submission to the Father's will to carry out the redemption plan for humanity, as written in John 6:39-40. We Christians do not have a problem with Jesus praying or talking with the Father, since their communion with each other predates creation. Jesus Christ was no less God on Earth when praying to His Father in heaven. Through Jesus' prayer life, we see an example of how a Christian should be.
Jesus is the only way to Heaven.
